Water leak detection, Long Island

Infrared leak detection on Long Island locates a hidden leak precisely enough that only one small area needs to be opened. We run a five-step sequence — infrared imaging, moisture metering, acoustic listening, correlation, then tracer gas — across Nassau and Suffolk. Each step confirms or rules out the last, so by the time a spot is marked, several methods agree on it. We locate the leak; your plumber makes the repair.

Infrared leak detection on slab-on-grade housing

Much of Long Island's housing sits on slab or over a finished basement, which makes a supply-line leak expensive to find by trial and error. A hot-water line losing water under a slab produces a warm plume that reads clearly on infrared long before anything appears on the surface.

Once infrared narrows the area, acoustic listening and correlation fix the point. The result is a single opening in the slab rather than a trench across the run.

Buried service lines and the water bill

The most common commercial call on Long Island is a water authority flagging unusual consumption at a property with nothing visible on the surface. A leak on the buried service between the curb stop and the building can run for months.

Acoustic correlation times the leak sound arriving at two sensors on the same line and calculates the distance between them, which narrows a long buried run to a few feet of excavation.

Thermal imaging water leak detection has limits — we state them

Infrared measures surface temperature. It does not see through walls, and it does not detect water directly. What it detects is the temperature difference water creates, which is why nothing goes into a report on a thermal image alone.

Where conditions make a reliable reading impossible, we say so and propose a different approach rather than issuing a location we cannot stand behind.

Common questions

Water leak detection on Long Island — answered.

How accurate is the location you give?

On a pressurised line under normal conditions, correlation typically places a leak within a foot or two, and acoustic confirmation narrows it further. On non-pressurised or very slow leaks, tracer gas is used instead. The report states the confidence, not just the spot.

Do you repair the leak once you find it?

No. We locate and document; your plumber repairs. We take no referral fee from plumbers, so there is nothing behind the recommendation except the finding.

What does leak detection cost on Long Island?

It is quoted as a flat inspection price for the property and the system involved, rather than hourly. That matters because hourly billing rewards a slow search, and the entire value of this service is a fast, exact one.

Why us and not a plumber

We write the report. We never bid the repair.

A plumber who finds your leak also sells you the repair. A roofer who inspects your roof also quotes the replacement. That isn't dishonesty — it's structure, and it quietly shapes every finding. We are an independent diagnostic company: we do not perform repairs, we do not sell materials, and we take no referral fee from any contractor. The report is the entire product, so there is nothing for us to gain by finding more than is there.

No repair revenue

We can't profit from the work we recommend, because we don't do the work. If your roof is 8% wet, the report says 8% — not "replace the field."

No referral fees

We accept nothing from contractors for sending work their way. Take our findings to your own plumber, roofer, or electrician, or put them out to bid.

Findings that carry weight

Boards, managing agents, and insurance carriers treat an independent finding differently than an estimate from the company that wants the job.

We'll tell you it's nothing

Sometimes the answer is condensation, or a warm duct, or a neighbor's roof. We're paid the same either way, so we say so.
